and the skies lit up.

Picture me, as the clock struck midnight and 2012 arrived, running from one end of the house to another, futilely craning my neck out at the balcony to catch a glimpse of the nearby fireworks display. I finally resigned myself to asking the I’m-too-old-for-crowds boyfriend (hence the decision to stay in) to change from the movie to the news channel so that I could watch the televised countdown at KLCC.
As previous new year’s eves were spent:
- at an apartment with an amazing view of KLCC and KL Tower,
- at the top floor of a house with a direct view of the fireworks at The Curve,
- at the rooftop of yet another apartment where we had a 360-degree view of both KL and PJ,
it felt as if I was missing out this year after so many consecutive years of spectacular fireworks displays!
So, in lieu of a live view (and for those who had the same fate as I did), here are some YouTube videos of the 2012 countdown at different locations around the world. Enjoy!
And to top it all off… London, baby! In my opinion, this was the pièce de résistance of all the 2012 fireworks displays around the globe that I’ve managed to watch. With a whopping £1.9m budget, of which, £276,000 went to the fireworks, it was an out-of-this-world display of amazing pyrotechnics, synchronized perfectly with background music that included Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, Shirley Bassey’s Diamonds Are Forever (to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012) and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a spectacular sight to watch fireworks explode out of Big Ben as it chimed at midnight…what a way to kick off 2012 and the upcoming London Olympics!
Now, how much moolah do I need to save each month to be able to stand at Westminster Bridge in person and watch this live on 31st Dec 2012?
